ARNE JANSEN (Berlin)
"At last! Looking skywards, one is tempted to let out a cry of relief. There hasn't been a jazz guitarist of the calibre of Berlin's Arne Jansen in Germany for decades. Perhaps never before." Jazzthetik, Wolf Kampmann
"One of the best jazz guitarists." Fono Forum
Born in 1975, Arne Jansen finds inspiration equally in jazz as in rock and pop music. During his studies of jazz guitar at the University of the Arts in Berlin (1996-2001), Jansen received lessons from Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, Philip Catherine and Mick Goodrick. Between 1998 and 2000 he was a member of the Bundesjugendjazzorchester under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer. With his own trio, the Nils Wülker Group, with David Helbock & Sebastian Studnitzky, the Senegalese Orchestra Baobab, Matthias Schweighöfer's live band or in duo projects with Katja Riemann, he regularly gives concerts at festivals at home and abroad. He was awarded the ECHO Jazz as "Best Guitarist National" in 2014 and 2017. When composing as well as improvising, Jansen always follows lyrical motifs. This is "less a conscious creative process than an unconscious journey of discovery", as he states. The guitarist's music is the image of humanity made sound, always searching for the special in the everyday, radiating peace and yet never coming to rest itself, because it is always searching. www.arnejansen.com
JONAS TIMM, pianist and composer, is one of the defining figures of Leipzig's young jazz and improvisation scene. In addition to a soft spot for choral music rooted in his musical roots, his passion lies in travelling and experiencing improvisation in the diversity of the world's cultures. His work as a leader (Jonas Timm Trio/Mondmenschen), co-leader (Insul/Mayoretta) and sideman has been documented several times on recordings. As a pianistic accompanist, he has participated in workshops with Norma Winstone and Theo Bleckmann. With his ensemble "MORBU"(with Diego Pinera/Bertram Burkert/Tino Derado/Lorenz Heigenhuber) he released the debut album in 2022, inspired by various travel experiences. In spring 2023, the follow-up CD was recorded. When Jonas is not travelling, he lives in Leipzig and Berlin. In addition to collaborations in Leipzig's young scene (Max Stadtfeld/Philipp Scholz/Robert Lucacio), Jonas Timm works regularly with the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the Leipzig Gewandhauschor. With his father, he runs the family label Mondrago Music. He also organises the annual MJUZIK Festival as part of a collective, which was initiated by him in 2019. www.jonastimm.de
